Grand Canyon

Day 14

Today we started with an early breakfast then off to a wild west gun fight before boarding the historic Grand Canyon Railway.  We were given commentary on the fauna and flora and history of the areas as well as being entertained by a country and western singer.  Eventually we arrived at the Grand Canyon.  One of the seven wonders of the world and over 1.7 billion years old it really is an amazing site and no matter how many photos you take you can not get the real beauty of the canyon.

After lunch we took a 45 minute helicopter flight over the canyon.  We had a young, pretty female pilot who Ian said was a very good (from his one lesson experience).  It started out a lovely flight but it soon turned dark, began raining, lightening and would you believe it hail!  They get between 4 – 8in rain per year and it rained while we were there.  However it did not ruin the flight and we really enjoyed it.  We got our photo taken and a video of the flight.

We returned to the canyon rim and our hotel.  Later we went for a walk to watch the sunset over the mountains.  It was an incredible sight and a lovely end to the day.
