Day 7
Wow another great day! We started with a stop at La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya) Here we discovered stunning coast lines, seals, brown pelicans and cormorants. What a beautiful place. We had a cup of Mexican hot chocolate and headed off for the USS Midway at San Diego.
This aircraft carrier was commissioned in WW11 and served in Vietnam and Korea and is now a museum which includes 25 restored aircraft and 60 exhibits ranging from the engine room to the Captains bridge.
The aircraft include F14 Tomcat, FA 18 Hornet, Phantom, Huey Gunship, A6 Intruder and a WW11 F4U Corsair. It was an excellent few hours and the staff were very obliging and informative.
From there we walked to Seaport Village which is full of eateries and shops for some lunch where we tried chilli chips. I had no idea that their chilli is actually chilli beans which tasted like baked beans. I expectd hot chilli.
We then crossed the bridge to beautiful Coronado Island. This island is famous for its beautiful beaches, warm sunny climate and the historic Hotel Del Coronado built in 1888. It has hosted presidents, royalty and celebrities and it was the principal setting for "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Munroe and Jack Lemmon.
Our day ended in "Old Town" where the first European Village in what is now California was founded in 1769. We visited the historic buildings and the Bazaar Del Mundo, a market that offers local (incuding Mexican) souvenirs.
It was a long day.
Tomorrow we head off to Warner Bros Studios and Stars Homes.
