Still Cruizin

Loved Rome. The Colosseum was magnificent. Our guide was excellent in describing the fights between men, gladiators, animals, women, ships – so much carnage. It was all due to the politicians (BC) sponsoring the best gladiators and putting on the best show to win popularity - so not much has changed two thousand years later.

We also saw the Roman Forum, Trajan’s Column, Arch of Constantine, Borghese Park, Castel Sant Angelo and Circus Maximus.

The Trevi Fountain was beautiful and we followed the custom of tossing a coin into the famous fountain. We had a great 3 course lunch with red wine, white wine and champagne. It was really excellent. We then crossed the river to the right side to visit the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica. It’s opulence is awesome. Michelangelo’s work is everywhere. After 3 hours we were exhausted. The crowds were incredible and the line up to get in was over a kilometer long.  We were lucky as a tour group we skipped the line.

Tomorrow Naples, Sorrento, Isle of Capri
