Natchez

Day 32
Today we left New Orleans and drove through Cajun Country to Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana.  We drove past the Governor’s mansion and visited the State Capital where we viewed the new building and the House of Representatives and the Senate.  It is the tallest Capital Building in America built in 1932 and features sandstone, marble and granite from around the world and huge brass chandeliers.  The ceiling of the House of Representatives is made from Sugar Cane.
We stopped along the way for lunch.  We were given a full buffet with drinks for $9.00 per head.  It was really good.  Eating here can be really cheap.
Next we visited elegant Natchez, a thriving port in the golden years of the cotton trade.  Here we visited a gracious pre civil war home, Stanton Hall, built in 1857 for cotton magnate Fredrick Stanton.  No expense was spared from immense Corinthian columns, extravagant Italian marble mantles, massive gold leaf mirrors and grand chandeliers.  The five levels of house include nearly 17feet tall hallways, three parlors and six massive bedrooms.  It features a fine collection of period furniture and paintings.
From there we went to our hotel The Isle Capri Hotel and Casino.  We were given a $5.00 voucher each to cash in at the casino.  When we cashed in our voucher we found it also included a free seafood buffet dinner.  So we ate, used the pokies and got free drinks while we were gambling and all it cost was the $2 I lost at the casino.
Tomorrow we are off to Memphis so we are really looking forward to that.  I don’t think we need to eat for a few days.
